Android user here. Firefox often gets stuck with a downloading notification after I download something. The download is complete and the notification for download has finished comes up. But Firefox will be stuck notifying me of a download stream in progress. It even sticks around if I close all my tabs/pages.

If I force stop Firefox the notification finally goes away. It's driving me crazy though. It's like the in progress notification just gets stuck somewhere. I haven't had it happen to all downloads, mostly those that are either saving an image with long press or triggered from a pop up window tab (such as drivethrurpg checkout process).

I've tried restarting my phone, and reinstalling fire fox, didn't help. I think a big is lurking in the way notifications are setup.

Sometimes when an ad pop up plays a video, I will also get the "tab is currently playing sound/media" notification control, that sticks around even after all tabs are closed and the media has long since stopped playing. That one gets stuck too, like the download one.

Mostly just letting you know to look into it. I don't have much free time for debugging sadly. Good luck, love using Firefox Android otherwise!

Hi

Is this happening with a particular website or a certain type of file?

If you could let us know which site you are using, we may be able to look into this further for you.

Happens with any site, any download. I can trigger it by simply visiting YouTube.com, playing a video, and closing the browser sometimes.

I've also had it happen just for saving images from say, deviant art or even Google search through the download image hold over.

It's very randomly triggered. I wish I had a consistent way to trigger the problem but I have not found one yet.

I browse using data and my solid wifi connections, depending on where I am. I've seen it happen on both connections, so I don't think it's connection related.

This morning I was downloading lots of images off twitter and never had the problem. So it seems very strange.

Do you have any add-ons installed?

None, just the default install from Android store.

One other consistency is the notification will show a percentage of download. The file itself will have already saved to the device, and I can open it in other apps and so on. But Firefox still thinks the download is "in progress".

I also cannot open the downloads page when it happens, selecting that just opens a white screen instead of listing the download interface. I get this normally anyway but usually it would then load the proper interface a few seconds later, however if the notification is stuck, the download page never loads instead. At least not within the 10 min I gave the program to try before I just gave up waiting. ;)

Here is a good example of what is happening with the notifications in screenshot form.

As you can see Firefox finished downloading the file, but the browser still has the notifications for download in progress. Closing Firefox at this point will not remove the notification, and I cannot swipe to remove it either. It's just stuck there forever till phone reset.

In this case, I downloaded while in incognito mode. Though I have had the error in normal mode as well.

(For the record, the file download is a fan made zip of the Tetris effect soundtrack since the company never released the full song list for me to buy. It was from a file hosting site, thus not trusting the site with non incognito mode. I own the game for PS4 and highly recommend checking it out, best soundtrack of 2018 for sure.)
