Firefox 12 won't allow Corel PhotoPaint X5 to paste 'New From Clipboard'
Once I upgraded to Firefox 12, 'New from clipboard' no longer worked with Corel PhotoPaint / CorelDraw x5.
First I right-click on an image on a website using Firefox 12 and select 'copy image'.
Then I go to Corel Draw PhotoPaint and say 'New From Clipboard' - and it shows the url path instead of the actual photo i had copied into my clipboard.
This is still a product Corel is selling.

Does it work to paste into a new blank image? I realize that's not convenient because you have to size the canvas, but I'd like to determine whether Firefox has put the image on the clipboard (or whether Corel can access it in other ways).
Possibly related unsolved thread: Copy and Paste of Images NOT working.
I think there is a difference between the formats placed on the clipboard in Firefox 11 and Firefox 12. I looked at the formats using a little program named Clipboard Inspector and Word 2007. I'm not sure why Corel would extract a text format, but perhaps a clipboard expert would have a guess.
Thanks! I really appreciate your help.
I think it must be working to copy the image in Firefox itself, as I could create a new doc in Photoshop and paste the firefox image into it.
I now remember this happened a few years ago with an older version of CorelDraw PhotoPaint and I had to buy a new version of Corel.
I wonder if there is any way around this, or whether I will have to buy the new X6? (I use this maybe 100 times a day, so it takes way more time if I can't use this feature that isn't working now, and that Photoshop doesn't have.)
I think the temporary workaround might be to drag and drop the image onto a blank area in Corel PhotoPaint. Does that still work?
This issue was once raised as a bug and fixed (286118 – "Copy Image" should only copy image data (not URL) due to incompatability with Windows apps - marked resolved, duplicate of bug marked "worksforme") but perhaps it is back.
Does this problem with Firefox 12 only affect Windows?
Are applications other than Corel PhotoPaint and Adobe Illustrator affected?
There is a bug in the tracking system for this and a solution is being developed: 749527 – When trying to 'copy' a picture directly from Firefox into a windows live chat box, it copys the image location (link) instead of the image.. Hopefully the fix will be included in Firefox 13 (currently in beta).

I logged into mozilla bug issues, and tried to add my vote, but it said it was resolved and a duplicate bug. The last post about it was in 7/09. Is there any way to get them to re-activate it?
I can drag and drop into a blank window in Corel PhotoPaint - and THEN I can copy and paste 'New From Clipboard' to it's own file in PhotoPaint.

The new bug is here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749527
The status in that link says RESOLVED FIXED Yet the Target Milestone is Firefox 15. Does that mean they intend to fix it in FF 15??
For the record, I get the same behavior in PhotoPaint X4 and CorelDraw X4 (similar to Illustrator). I can drag and drop into a blank window in PhotoPaint, but the 'new from clipboard' doesn't work like moonslice says it does in X5.
I voted but as of this post, there are only 9 votes. :(
The RESOLVED FIXED was just added last night (since I had voted, I got an email about the update). I haven't studied the details, but I think your interpretation probably is correct.
Edit: According to comment #18, it should make its way into Firefox 13. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749527#c18

The copy and paste functionality has been restored in Aurora 14.0a2 (2012-05-05) I think it has also been restored in the latest build of FireFox 13 beta, but I haven't tested it. I believe that the same fix in the code was applied both FF beta and Aurora.
