I've got the BuzzDock Spamware ads popping up for all of my Google searches. Buzzdock Ad Spam ScreenCap

  • I do NOT have Yontoo (Yontoo Layers) installed.
  • My Add-ons are clean, no Yontoo, Buzzdock, PageRage or any other dodgy apps.
  • There are no programs called Unknown, Yontoo or Buzzdock listed in my Uninstall Program list.
  • There is no mention of buzzdock or yontoo in any about:config entry.
  • I have looked through %APPDATA\Mozilla for wonky extensions but can't find anything out of place.

I've run a number of general purpose anti-crapware scans (Malwarebytes, ComboFix, etc) but the problem persists.

The only clue I have is the Buzzdock ads all contain links to the 191.xdirectx.com domain.

Last note: Please report any any AdFly or other spam links that pop up in this thread. I've seen Buzzdock shills stalk help requests like this one load them with spam. Thank you.

First, try to reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.

A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this: Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.

Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

Did you try other scanners to scan for rootkits?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

If using various malware scanners does not fix it or if you are blocked from installing those scanners then ask advice at a forum that specializes in malware removal.
