Please update to Firefox 20 Immediately, as Firefox 7 is not supported anymore, nor is it secure or stable. Update Firefox to the latest release

Then please update your plugins. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

Do these things before trying anything else

Or your User Agent is corrupted, so please use How to reset the default user agent on Firefox

The version was at least already 20.

Did you update to Firefox 23.0.1? Please do that before continuing. all other versions are not supported.

Everytime I boot the PC I check for updates , also for plugins and addons. I have the latest version. An new problem occurred....my Youtube account is not accessible. When using Ff portable-no problem. Even in safe-mode this problems persists.

Have a nice day, Defrag

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Thanks a lot for your replies. A reset solved the problems described in the post 04-03-13. A folder "Old Firefox Data" appeared-what to do with this folder? The reset deleted all add-ons, fortunately I saved the troubleshooting info, so I have a list with these addons and more. The problem with the Youtube-account still persists-no idea what the problem is. Co-rel's suggested readings I have still to read....I will do this at home, seems to require some time.

PS: "Most Visited" does not display most visited sites-how to add or remove something there?

Keep the old data for now. It may be of use if you need to transfer or check things from the old profile. There could be a slight privacy / security issue with permanently retaining the old profile on your desktop, especially if multiple users use that account.

Try and check how things are after the reset and report back what issues you still have, before making any further changes, other than creating a new profile.

If you do or did create a new profile note it is good practice

  • Always to use an empty folder for the location, and do not nest profiles.
  • Never to rename or delete profiles.

Please post back for further advice if you are considering re naming or deleting any Firefox profile.

Most visited is a list that shows a query of the History. So to have websites appear in that "Most Visited" list you need to visit such an URL often enough to increase the visit count to match other in the top 10 visit count of history items. You can make the Visit Count column visible in the Library to seethe actual visit count.

Hi,

In a few weeks I will bring my new PC to the dealer and because of the warranty I must not remove the SSD and HDD. Otherwise the warranty is forfeited. How to prevent nosy people checking the Firefox “Most Visited” and other places where data are stored (where?) and how to remove them? And...how to restore/reinstall them?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions

Hi Defrag, most of your Firefox personal data (e.g., bookmarks, history, logins) is stored in a profile folder. If you back up your main c:\users folder, it should include this folder, but just to be sure, this article describes how to access your Firefox profile folder: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. And this article has suggestions on backing up: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

In addition to your profile folder, Firefox maintains a separate folder of cached files. You can clear the cache from inside Firefox to remove those files.

Then if you uninstall Firefox and choose to remove personal data, your profile folder will be deleted from your SSD or hard drive.

It's always possible for a technician or third party to "unerase" some files on a Windows system. There are privacy utilities to securely erase blank areas of a hard drive, but I'm not sure about an SSD drive.

I'm confused now about your Windows version. If you're still on Windows XP, your data is under

C:\Documents and Settings\username\

but if you have Windows 7 or Windows 8, it should be under

C:\Users\username\

Because Windows hides some folders and files, you may want to turn on viewing of hidden files so you can see exactly what's there: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
