Some of my live bookmarks no longer reload, not manually or automatically. I've tried safe mode and resetting Firefox and still have the problem. Fixable?

I have subscribed to 19 blogs as live bookmarks. A couple of months ago, one of the blogs started not refreshing the list of posts. Now a second blog no longer refreshes. I have tried the "Reload Live Bookmark" option (both from the live book mark dropdown and from the "Show all Bookmarks" menu and it does not refresh the list. If I visit the blog, I get the latest posting, but it never shows up in the RSS feed. I have tried opening Firefox in safe mode to see if the add-ons are causing the problem and there is no change in the behavior of the feeds. I have also tried Resetting Firefox and that did not work. What else can I try?

The live bookmarks magically started working again! Must have been something with the blog I was following as I've changed nothing recently.

Did you visit the feed URL to make sure that the feed is still valid?

Try to remove that feed and add it again (Subscribe to This Page) by visiting the affected websites.

The feeds are valid. I did try deleting them, restarting the computer, and then adding them back in. Same problem occurs.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

I have tried running in safe mode without the add-ons, but still have the problem.

I don't believe my places.sqlite file is locked as I can add/remove bookmarks just fine.

I guess the next step would be try rebuilding the places.sqlite database?

Yes you can try that.

You can move the places.sqlite file to another folder or rename the file (places.sqlite.old).
Firefox should rebuild the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Ok, I tried that and nothing changed. The next thing I tried was removing the JSON backup files so that I'd be starting fresh with my bookmarks. I added the live bookmark for this site again and it gives me nothing newer than July 8 even though there are 5 newer entries.

Is there anything else I can try, or should I assume that this is a problem with the blog I'm following and not me?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I'm on a MAC so I don't have the "uninstall" feature, I have to manually delete the application and it's folders. However, if I make a copy of my profile directory elsewhere, I should be able to just move that back after I reinstall, correct?

Interestingly, I did use my other computer yesterday and it has the same live bookmark problem with this one website.

Reinstall did not work. :( Guess it's a problem with the blog or a bug in Firefox?

The live bookmarks magically started working again! Must have been something with the blog I was following as I've changed nothing recently.

I have 4 live bookmarks from searches of Craig's List, and all worked without a hitch. Today, I revised a search, deleted the old live bookmark, and created a new one. That one consistently tells me "Live Bookmark failed to load". The other 3 are working. I deleted that live bookmark with the error, and created another. Same failed-to-load error. I started Mozilla (using Pale Moon flavor) in safe mode; still the same error.

Since the other three are working, and the original fourth worked until I deleted it, I'd like to avoid the clean reinstall of Mozilla if possible. Is there anything else worth trying first?
