After a recent update to Firefox 133.0.3 (on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 22.04), Firefox is having difficulty connecting to websites and exhibiting some other odd behavior:

- After initially starting Firefox, it will load websites (e.g., previously open tabs) for up to 30 seconds. After that, it will not load any website in a new tab, showing the loading animation for several seconds before stopping all activity and just displaying an hourglass icon in the tab. These sites can be connected to in other web browsers. - After closing Firefox, its process is still running; I have to manually find its pid and kill it. - If I start Firefox from the terminal, I see these messages when it starts having trouble loading websites:

libva info: VA-API version 1.20.0 libva info: Trying to open /snap/firefox/5437/gnome-platform/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_20 libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0

This issue appeared fairly recently. When I open a downloaded picture from Firefox's downloads menu, it opens under Firefox window. So it's like the browser is in "always on top" mode when it happens. It's inconsistent and doesn't happen all the time, but I can't notice any pattern. Tested it in another browser and tried changing default image viewing software to make sure that the problem is with Firefox. It persists in troubleshooting mode as well.

Firefox and Thunderbird issues. I am using Firefox v. 133.0.3 (64 bit) on Win 10 I have 2 default files: C:\Users\NewMain\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bwa3b8cx.default-1520739811795 with 1,114 items C:\Users\NewMain\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kfjgip7d.default with 55 items When I open Firefox I land on “Welcome to Firefox” and a second tab “Firefox Privacy NoticeꟷMozilla” appears. Sometimes two windows (2 versions) of Firefox open, both on the default Firefox screen. I have repeatedly tried to change the home screen. This works until I close Firefox. Upon restart the home page is gone and I revert to the default Firefox page. In Thunderbird I am using I have one Profile C:\Users\NewMain\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\n7m9uw0t.default with 131 items. As with Firefox two windows open when I start Thunderbird. Currently one window has only my inbox. The other window opens with two tabs: Inbox and Account Settings. I no longer see the local folders I was using before things went awry. Questions: 1. How do I get Firefox to open one window and land on my desired home page? 2. How do I restore the saved passwords? 3. How do I get Thunderbird to open only once and on my inbox 4. How can I restore my “lost” local folders? I have looked at a number of FAQs and haven’t been able to suss out a cure. Also, it seems that both programs started having problems at the same time. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. R. Stober

Hello,

I am a new firefox user and would like to use it 100%, but have been running into a few bugs. This one I have been unable to find this issue myself, so thought I would ask here. I use Qobuz to stream hi-res music up to 24bit/ 192kHz. Some albums do not have sound at that resolution. The file will load and timer shows the song is playing, but there is no audio. I can change the setting to stream at 16bit/44.1kHz and then I get audio. Again, this does not occur with all albums, some will stream at hi-res and some will not. An interesting note: the same file with no audio at hi-res on firefox will have audio at same resolution setting on chrome. The only thing I can think of is chrome is reducing resolution in the background, or maybe a DRM issue? I do have "Play DRM-controlled content" checked in firefox settings.

p.s. I am aware that streaming music through a browser is not necessarily the best way to listen to hi-res music, and my ears may, or may not hear the difference between the 16bit and 24bit. However, the issue is the functionality, or lack of.

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Hi there,

I have been using Firefox browser for Android for many years now, and have generally been very happy. I don't want to use another browser if I don't have to.

The last couple of days though, the app has started to use large amounts of cellular data, yesterday over 60 GB in a couple of hours. Also drained the battery fast. Was in a meeting, so didn't notice it at first, I then turned off mobile data settings, and forced closed the app.

There were no tabs with video playing in the tabs, so no idea what tab(s) caused the issue. The data usage settings showed almost all usage was in the foreground.

I thought closing the app, and restarting the phone would solve the problem, but when I opened the app again, the same thing started to happen. The speed of using data was high, and I had to close it again. No indication of any tab or website causing the issue, only had a few open to test.

Now I don't know if I could trust the app again, at least not without finding the issue. I have unlimited data, but the speed is reduced after a certain number of GB used, so have put a limit and notification on data usage now anyway.

Have any of you experienced the same problem? And if so, how did you solve it?

For the last several days, YouTube has been increasingly unusable. The most obvious hindrance is when playing/pausing a video, or attempting to adjust volume using the native control overlay on any video. It lags substantially, my cursor often disappearing entirely & attempting to pause or resume playback takes several seconds.

Using Firefox's task manager, YouTube is monopolizing roughly 2-3 GB of RAM when playback is paused, and CPU consumption will range from 0-95% - when playing a video/utilizing the tab, it tends to stay reliably closer to 50-100%. I have also run Firefox Profiler while resuming and pausing a video, which is here: Profiler Data. I am not particularly literate with this kind of data though, so I have no comment on its contents.

My extensions, by comparison, average roughly 500 MB and no more than 1% CPU utilization at any given time. I do use uBlock Origin, as well as Tab Session Manager, cookies.txt, Honey, Fakespot, Ruffle, and TWP.

I am sure this is far more of a YouTube problem than a Firefox problem, but are there solutions available? I have seen discussions on other platforms regarding the issue, but it seems like solutions are in short supply - telling YouTube to bias in favor of AV1/VP9 had no impact, and I'm hesitant to download more extensions to attempt to bandaid the issue.

Thank you :)

Hi There. Please can someone try to help me..

I know VERY little about computers. I have windows 8.1 and firefox. All works perfectly and always has.

I do NOT have any other "devices" I am disabled and cannot use a telephone so do not have one, well, only the old sort i use to get one time passcodes.

In the last few days, everytime i have had to make a payment to anywhere, i have had the onetime passcode "authentification" thingy pop up from Mastercard. Not a problem, works perfectly.

Enter virgin media..

When i try to pay their bill, the "authentification" thing does not load properly and hence it is impossible to proceed. Virgin media are worse than useless and insist it is something wrong with my computer. If that is the case, why does every other website on the entire internet work properly then, apart from theirs..

I have added a screen shot of their web page..

If i refresh it, a different screen comes up, i have added a screen shot of that too..

Anyone got any ideas??

Thank you.. john.

Firefox seems to run slow. I rebooted my new Windows 11 computer (Dell Inspiron 16, Intel Core 11), opened up Task Manager, then opened Firefox. I have one browser page open with one Firefox tab, yet the Task Manager is appearing to tell me there are 9 Firefox "pages" (?) open; see attached image. What is this? Why is this? Is it slowing performance? I have run Firefox for several years and would like to keep doing so; just not sure I can deal with the slow performance. Thank you for your consideration & assistance.
