After updating to Firefox 33.0.3 why am I getting Untrusted Connection Errors with Yahoo and Amazon?

more options

I have updated to Firefox 33.0.3 and now I am getting untrusted connection errors when trying to go to Yahoo.com and Amazon.com this happens with both http and https. My time is in sync. I tried deleting the cert8.db file.

I have looked at other solutions and they have not worked. These sites were working fine on the previous version for me but now with this new update they are not working. Why hasn't Mozilla fixed this already?

Yes I have tried the steps above. For example, When I try to get to Yahoo web site, I get this:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.yahoo.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

www.yahoo.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

I do not have the option to do an exception because I can only click on the Technical Details and the Get me Out of Here button.

As I've said in my previous post, I have deleted the cert8.db file, my clock is in sync, and I have tried to do the other solutions but they have not worked.

The "unknown issuer" error can be caused by Firefox not being fully set up to work with your security software, or by having malware on your system.

Do you use Kaspersky, ESET, or BitDefender as your security suite, or Microsoft Family Safety? These program have a feature to filter your web connections. When filtering a secure connection, they need to present a "fake" certificate to Firefox in order to decrypt and examine the content you are exchanging with the site.

In looking at your plugins, I think you might have Kaspersky. I can't keep track of the manuals for all the different versions, but here's a page for PURE 3.0 showing where you turn scanning of secure connections on and off, and the Install certificate button that may help in setting up Firefox:

Edit: a user recently reported receiving these steps from Kaspersky support, but I don't think anyone else has confirmed them yet: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1008312#answer-650914

I just updated to firefox 33.1 and this problem still exists.

This did not happen with firefox versions 28 to 32. I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security and I just upgraded that to version 15.0.1.415a before upgrading firefox. Now, I tried both solutions, I disabled the secure scan and I deleted the certificate. Result- is the same. I am still getting Untrusted Connections when trying to go to Yahoo and Amazon.

I have no choice now. I tried the solutions given to me, they have not worked. I waited for a new version of FireFox and that still didn't fix the problem. I must switch browsers to Chrome because when I tried IE, these sites work fine with no problem. But, I refuse to use IE.

Does Firefox's error page for Yahoo and Amazon include the third section, "I understand the risk"? If so, could you expand that, click Add Exception, and then view the certificate for the site? What information is listed under "Issued by"? You don't need to complete adding the exception after getting that information.

Oh wait, you already mentioned that I understand the risk is missing.

Could you inspect the certificate in IE? Click the padlock in IE's address bar, view the certificate, and check the Issuer in the Details tab. (Example screen shot attached)
