Ever since I updated to FF 33.1, every time I start FF, I have to endure the "Welcome to FireFox 33.1" screen. It tries to get me to take the tutorial all over again, and all the other initial stuff. How do I clear whatever flag that causes it to keep coming up?

You can check the home page setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Unfortunately the first thing I did was set the home page to about:blank. If I hit the home button on the upper right of the top bar, it does take me to a blank screen. As for preferences, I did a reset to default on everything using the settings page. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you go to the profile folder and delete the above mentioned prefs.js file?

You can also delete the compatibility.ini file.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
