Today when I checked my plugins, I was told that my VLC Multimedia plugin needed to be updated.

When I clicked on the Update Now button, I was taken to the usual download page blah blah blah whatever.

What I wish to know are these things: 1) What is this plugin for? 2) Would it conflict with other media players like Flash, Java, etc 3) Is it even worth uploading/downloading in the first place?

Chosen solution

The plugin is from the VLC media player you installed.

current version is 2.2.0 as you have 2.1.3 http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

@James 1) If I download this, would an icon for it show up on my desktop, and would I have to restart my laptop to fully install it?

2) I noticed that there are two versions: one for 64-bit, and one for 32-bit. Which one do I need to install?
