on laptop how can I restore the tool bar bookmarks which won't fill the tool bar space, but leave it blank? No suggestions work since last two updates.

Even though there are sites listed when I open bookmarks under the heading "toolbar" they do not fill in the space at the top of the browser when I check to show the bookmark toolbar. The space remains blank. This started with the last two updates. Firefox 37.0.2, running Win 7 home premium SP 1on an Acer Aspire 5742 64 bit

Make sure that toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button to restore the default toolbar setup

Perhaps I didn't state the problem well enough. The space for the bookmark toolbar will open or close on the browser; if I open bookmarks under "toolbar" the item I want are there. No matter what I do the items in the bookmark toolbar section will not show up in their space on the browser and the space remains blank.

Hi xslc, are you also the original poster, ecrirez?

If you open the Customize mode (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) and look at the Bookmarks Toolbar, which normally appears below the main Navigation Toolbar (URL + icons), does it have a block named "Bookmarks Toolbar Items"?

If you are moving "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" to a different bar, it sometimes behaves strangely in other locations, but I'm not aware of any recent reports of that (not that it's possible to read every thread here!).

If you want to restore the standard toolbar layout and then customize again, you can use the Restore Defaults button at the bottom center of the Customize tab.

Hi xslc

If you open the customize window, is "Bookmarks Toolbar items" still showing on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
  • View > Toolbars > Customize

The Bookmarks Toolbar items is the placeholder text of the container that stores the bookmarks and this container needs to be on the toolbar where you want to see these bookmarks.
