When launching firefox, the background is dark with white text but I can't see any check boxes (i.e. yahoo mail, gmail, etc.). Everything shows up as boxes but I can't see what they say...unless I hover over them.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"

Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working. Note that this setting affects background images.

Also check the default colors. Note that some websites may only set either the text color or the background color and assume default colors like black text and white background color.
