Considering updating the OS on my Mac, but have not updated Thunderbird want to find out the best way to do this. Should I try to update Thunderbird first? Can I do this without loosing emails that are organized in different folders currently?

Once you update the OS, just DL the new Thunderbird from http://getthunderbird.com/
