switching on today I found Mozilla suggesting syncing my devices, seemed a good idea, but now I find I have a totally new account with no history and no bookmarks - I rely on my bookmarks, which go back a long way, and history is often very useful too. I tried switching computer on and off, but has made no difference. Can anyone suggest how I might retrieve this information?

on your Win10 go to your installed account profile here, Win 10; C:\Users\Your Account Name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o65hyi78.default [You have different number]

The folder that has .default behind it is your saved logins and bookmarks.

Since you updated and your bookmarks are not in it then you probably see 2 folders in your profile folder. The .default.old is the one that has all your saved passwords and bookmarks. Right click it to see the size of the folder, should be bigger then the new default folder. mine is 160 mb as example, clean install folder 3 mb if i recall well..

Then first rar,zip pack your .old and current default folder, rar without delete after rar, then you have your back ups so can work without danger. Then simply go into your default.old folder and select all that is inside there then do copy. Now go into the current default folder and do paste inside replace folders with same names.

Start firefox and there you go new fox with your old bookmarks ;)

Hi Passie thanks for your reply. I have Windows XP not Win10 ,and don't understand where I find my 'different number' to access my profile. Can you tell me how to do that?

Whether I will then be able to follow all the directions you give, is another matter ..... But I would have a go. The sentence about rar.zip was completely baffling, but maybe once I'm in it would become clear.
