With Firefox version 48 I could play the videos on ESPN but now that I have version 50.1.0 the videos on ESPN and some other sites will no longer play if I use Chrome everything works fine but I don't like Chrome. I am running OPENSUSE 42.2.

Can you check the Web Console ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer) for error messages about this issue?

Is the HTML5 media player or the Shockwave Flash plugin used?

You can check via the right-click context menu of the player area what type of media player is used. A Flash based player shows a context menu with the Flash version.

With Firefox 48.0.2 (August 24, 2016) were you using openSUSE 14.1 ? as 14.2 came out later on Nov 16.

Perhaps you had ffmpeg installed in 14.1 which is need to play HTML5 video.

If everything needed is installed then you should get all blue checkmarks at https://www.youtube.com/html5/
