In the past 2-3 years Firefox would save the last page and spot you left off on once you hit the back button. Recently that stopped working. Now when i press the back button it takes me to the previous page but not in the same exact spot where I left off on. What happened?

Firefox uses data stored in the disk cache to return to the spot where you left off, so if this isn't working the disk cache may not be active.

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
