Is it possible to mark emails in folders and subfolders as read - without marking each subfolder separately? I have imported more than 8000 folders and Lord knows how many emails from Outlook, all fine - but they are all 'unread'! I only have a couple of dozen folders, but they contain many subfolders.

Hi and thanks for the reply, I tried this add-on, and it works fine - but only for a folder with no subfolders. If folder A has subfolders B&C containing unread messages, using Mark All Read on A does nothing. :-(

Yes, as you correctly note, the add-on should really be called Mark Folder or Thread Read. I've been unable to find a method of marking all subfolders read, but it appears it might be possible to create a filter that acts on subfolders of an IMAP account, with the filter rule Status + isn't + Read, and the Action 'Mark as Read'.

'Mark all read' only works on a per folder basis. It does not include subfolders nor all account folders. you should be able to select various folders and then use the right click to 'mark all read', but it does involve selecting all those folders manually.

There was a bug report /request made several years ago, but it would seem no one took up the case. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500762

Many thanks to sfhowes - that's a very good idea - I'll certainly give it a try. It seems to me that the ability to mark a folder and all its subfolder contents as read would be a very useful addition - especially as imported emails are marked as unread!
