Chosen solution

Try to rename/remove favicons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

This will remove all the favicons, so you will have to click each bookmark to make Firefox retrieve the favicon from the server.

Did you check it's properties to see if it isn't linking to the site to update the icon?
