I was having really slow Thunderbird performance on my old 2016 Macbook, lots of the spinning rainbow disk - almost any action causes as 1-4 second wait time. Then I bought a brand new Macbook Air 2019 with 16GB RAM/512 thinking it would help out, it didn't.

Are there any tricks to improving MacOS performance with Thunderbird? I already compacted folders. No idea what could be next...

Thanks!!

Do you have an anti virus program? They tend to a cause of a lot of slowness issues.

No sir. I literally have a brand new Macbook with Thunderbird, Office, Chrome, that is all I use.

Even something as simple as stopping type to delete characters, starts the circle rainbow for 1-2 seconds. Scrolling folders, 3-5 seconds, create new email, 1-2 seconds wait time. Thunderbird is the only app that does this, everything else is speedy.

Here are a couple of suggestions gleaned from this article on performance:

Disable Time Machine (3.) Disable Mac Spotlight Integration (4.)
