Order of contacts in autocomplete list
I switched to Thunderbird after using Apple Mail for a few years. When I compose email in Thunderbird, the autocomplete feature presents me with a list of contacts (presumably migrated from Apple Mail, or perhaps OSX), which is never in order of frequency of use. In most cases, the addresses I wan, and use most frequently are pretty far down the list, and addresses I have not used in years sometimes show up first. Even after a few months of use, the order doesn't seem to change. Is there a way I can force THunderbird to show some contacts before others, or to explicitly exclude some contacts from the autocomplete list without deleting them completely?

The built-in address autocomplete routine is supposed to list results according to the frequency of their being used, but it doesn't have any options available to the user. The MRC Compose add-on has several options to control the search, such as limiting it to the beginning of contact fields and restricting the address books used in the search (see picture). Try that and see if it improves the addressing process.
