i never signed up for reddit. all of a sudden it started to appear lower right of screen. info about it says i have to sign in to reddit to get rid of it. but if i never signed in for it, why sign in to get rid of if...why give an unwanted product info about me?

any firefox way to intercept and delete it before it interferes with my work?

Hi grebs, when you first install Firefox, there is a link to Reddit in the Top Sites section of the new tab page. Otherwise, I don't think Reddit should appear anywhere in Firefox unless an add-on is displaying it for some reason.

Have you noticed a pattern to when it appears?

Since an extension is a possible culprit, here is how to check on those. Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Can you find anything relevant?

thank you jscher2000. i navigated as instructed and there were no ad ons before 'recommended extensions', just after the ad-ons i chose. since yesterday, reddit has not appeared maybe because i found and added on the 'reddit ad remover'? we'll see what happens in next day or 2. a thought crossed my mind: could someone have passed on his 'like' for reddit to me? every once in a while i get a mysterious facebook invite from some unknown person (or code) who wants to talk with me, so i also added on the facebook container. what a wonderful world we live in.
