I am using XP Home and FF 3.6.13. After hours of using FF,I cannot free up memory by minimizing it,even though that work s for the first hour or two. Earlier today,my system froze up,and I had to use the reset button to reboot, which I haven't had to do in months.

This issue can be caused by extensions that do not work properly. You do have a lot installed, so it may be difficult to identify the culprit(s).

Thanks, but the problem seems to show up only after extended use of the computer.Today, for example,I didn't go to work, and turned the PC on in the morning, and by early afternoon,it was getting more and more sluggish. It finally got so bad that it locked up,and even CTL-ALT-DEL wouldn't work.

not specifically answering the question, a suggestion is disabling extensions you don't use often and uninstalling out-dated Java Console 6.0.20 and Java Console 6.0.22.
