Firefox does not remember and ask to remember passwords, even though the box at "Tools>Options>Security" is checked and there are no site exceptions. It also won't kepp me logged in if I tick "keep logged" on a website (e.g. Facebook)

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The above solved the problem for new passwords / sites, thank you! But now I am not able to change / edit my old passwords to sites already in the password manager. I used to be able to do so. Any suggestions to solve?
