On my laptop running windows 7 all the info displayed at the top of the homepage window is missing. All headings, i. e. File, Edit View, etc. are gone. There is no address bar. There is no home button, refresh button, etc. My wife was using the machine when it happened so I don't know what she did. How do I restore these features?

When all the toolbars are missing you are probably in Full Screen mode, press F11 to toggle Full Screen mode on/off, or you can move the cursor up to the very top of the screen.

The real problems you describe can all be fixed through customization and one extension, see steps 1:10 in the following ...

You can make Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.

There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

Toolbars and their content were rearranged and buttons were combined into dual use the net result is I could see about 25% of what I had before and saved about 10% of the toolbar space with great loss of functionality to hide things that could already be hidden and to create confusing buttons that already have keyboard shortcuts and don't need to be seen. The only good thing was that "Ctrl+/" was added to hide/unhide the add-ons bar which badly replaced the status bar.

IF you are in Full Screen mode, move your Mouse to the top and right-click Minimize button -> unselect Hide Toolbars and click Exit Full Screen (or press F11 to Exit Full Screen)
