Firefox crashes everytime its starts. at first it crashed after starting. then, after restarting the computer it started to crash even before opening a website. therefore i could not reach the add-on settings or delete the history. it crashed in safe-mode also. Attempts to create a new firefox profile using terminal failed, because it was telling me that firefox-bin unexpectedly shut down.

I'm really scared to loose all my bookmarks, even though i have a back up of them, the back-up is old and ive created several bookmarks since. :(

ive had problems with firefox before, and it seemed to be because of my add ons, because firefox started working again after deleting and reinstalling them. the help on mozillas website tells me though, because i couldnt start in safe-mode, the problem cant be the add ons.

in case it helps: my imac is a leopard 10.5.8.

my last crash id is only from october. :/

hope you can help!

Chosen solution

Thank you for your quick reply! the crash happened after i installed the update of the adobe flash player. strange!

i know solved the problem by deleting the firefox cache! i went to library:chache:firefox:profiles etc. and deleted all the cache files in the different folders!

and thanks for showing me the place where i can find the bookmarks backups! thats really helpful!

It appears to relate to Flash Player. Safe mode does not disable plugins.

Try updating Flash Player plugin. If that does not help try disabling or even uninstalling Flash Player.

P.S.

To ensure you have the files for your bookmarks look for and copy any files within your firefox profile named bookmarks backups, or something similar, and also the database file places.sqlite . If you make spare copies of those and keep them safe it may help if you need to recreate your bookmarks at a later date.

Also try using about:cache key that into the location bar as if you were going to a website.
