Firefox 9 offers only a simple non-hierarchical list of bookmarks, not an inverted-tree with some branches expanded; is there a cure, or else how can I restore Firefox 8?

The old Firefox offered a bookmark screen on the left with an inverted-tree structure. e.g.

Finance

    CNBC.com
    finance.yahoo.com
    BBC glossary of business terms
    Fidelity Investments

Lookup

    yahoo.com
    ZIP code finder
    google maps
    Chase personal banking
    www.amazon.com

Film

    imdb.com
    Turner Classic Movies

Weather

Astronomy

Science

    Science Times
    periodic table
    Schrodinger wave equation

Geology

This is like the computer folder/subfolder(or file) structure. Some folders can remain closed until needed, e.g. weather, but others remain expanded until closed, and each visible bookmark can be clicked on immediately (without opening another list).

Hi joelgibson,

Are you talking about the bookmarks sidebar? Trying hitting CTRL + b. Is that what you are referring to? You can also create a navigation bar icon to enable this sidebar if you don't want to use the keyboard shortcut. Take a look at the Knowledge Base article Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars for details.

Hopefully this helps!

Thank you!! This is precisely what I was trying to describe. Now I can work again! Mozilla may find other users asking for this, since it seems to be absent by default. Thank you for your responsiveness. Usually it's Microsoft, not Mozilla, who makes choices with which I find fault.
