Hi chetsa,

Without knowing exactly what steps you've tried, the only thing I can suggest is that you take a look at the Knowledge Base article Create a desktop shortcut to a website. This has pretty detailed instructions and screenshots.

Does if work if you keep the Ctrl key pressed while dragging the URL?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
