I recently uninstalled Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium Preview and since that uninstall, my Firefox browser has not worked properly. I have another computer with FIrefox and my Facebook and MSN homepage work correctly on that computer. However the computer on which I removed the Office 365 is the one that does not display any graphics and navigating those pages is impossible.

Chosen solution

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Thank you.

Thank you for posting a possible solution, however the problem persists even after unchecking the "Use hardware acceleration when available" box. Additionally, pages like the Yahoo and iHeart web page also do not open properly, yet if I go to my bank's online page it displays properly and I am able to log in and the pages all work correctly. (https://www.mygecu.org/) I have included a screen shot of my facebook page and what it looks like when I log in.

I should also mention that when this first happened, I uninstalled firefox version 19 and downloaded firefox 20 only keeping my settings during the uninstall, but it did not fix the problem.

Thank you Cor-el. I started Firefox in safe mode as suggested and reset Firefox keeping my settings and bookmarks. Facebook, MSN and Yahoo sites opened up correctly. George
