Why did the scroll-bar arrows disappear from Firefox when I upgraded from Fedora 17 to 18?

more options

Recently, I upgraded from Fedora 17 to Fedora 18. Before the upgrade, Firefox worked perfectly. Now the arrows have disappeared from the right-side scroll bar. How can I get them back?

This problem did not occur in other applications -- only in Firefox.

You can also check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Do you still have a scroll bar (i.e. only the buttons are gone)?

Are you using the default Firefox theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance)?

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

You can try to check if another Linux theme or icon pack brings them back.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Many thanks for the quick and informative replies. It turns out that this is not a Firefox problem. I should have examined more other applications; the scroll-bar arrows have disappeared from a bunch of those other applications.

Actually, this is an operating-system problem. With the upgrade from Fedora 17 to Fedora 18, the Gnome desktop, and various other desktops, quit displaying scroll-bar arrows. In Fedora 18, scroll-bar arrows are displayed in the KDE desktop, but not in most others.
