The Awesome Bar used to be great and suggest previous websites we have been to as we typed. Now it is doing a generic search. We have to know the exact address to come close to what we are looking for. Even if a full address with the .com or any ending is properly added, the awesome bar is responding as if we just did a search and brings up multiple suggestions for websites. We have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox - no changes. Please help.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

I note the presence of the conduit plugin, maybe that is involved with some of your problems. A reset will not necessarily remove all of that, but should remove and reset some of the things.

If you install software take care about the extras bundled with it. Try to read reviews in advance about the sites and downloads you consider using.

Resetting was such an easy solution, but I had no idea that I should do it or that it could even be done. Thanks you. Thank you.
