Is it possible to completely disable the auto-update feature in Firefox? I need to run ONLY 20.0.1 in order to use certain applications. I have disabled the auto-update feature and the background-update feature under Tools>Options>Update. I have also disabled auto-update on the about:config page and removed all links to the update pages on the about:config page. In spite of that, it STILL downloads the update in the background and updates when I restart. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You should always use the current Firefox 22 release version for normal usage.
You can install a portable Firefox 20 version or install a Firefox 20 version (or 17 ESR version) as a second browser alongside of the current release via a custom install with its own profile folder.

You can install a portable (ESR) Firefox version to access websites that do not work with the current Firefox release.
The portable version comes with its own profile folder and doesn't interfere with the currently installed release version.
