My computer has recently stopped auto entering my user names and or email addresses when I go to log into a website. Hence I have to type my full email or user name and then my password. Can anyone please tell me why or more importantly how I can fix this issue?

Does that happen on all websites you visit or only on some of them? It it's been happening only on some of them, the websites might have made slight changes, making your saved form outdated.

Try installing this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/saved-password-editor/, then opening a login page that doesn't automatically fill-in, then going to the Firefox button and choosing the password editor, choosing the entry for this website, editing it and hitting "Guess from the current page". Save the entry and refresh the page.

Is it still not working?

Try switching to another password manager:

Do you have only one used name saved for those websites (domains)?

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check the signon.autofillForms pref on the about:config page and reset a user set (bold) signon.autofillForms pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

I used to have problems with auto-fill on some websites too. That usually happened if I had more than one account saved for this website, OR when I had form history turned off.

Make sure it's on:

  • Options>Privacy>History>Use custom settings for history>Remember search and form history.

If it is, try double clicking the login field. And choosing your username/email from the form history - that sometimes filled the password for me.

If that doesn't help, I really do recommend trying out LastPass.

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used and in that case you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.
