i have linux machines that users log in via Microsoft Active directory. Whenever they log in, they don't get proxy settings configured despite having set this via YAST.

I want that whenever any one logs in, by default they get firefox with proxy set.

You can lock preferences. Locked preferences are applied to all Firefox profiles and cannot be modified.

Example of proxy settings locked to "Automatic proxy configuration URL" with a specified configuration URL:

In <installation folder>\mozilla.cfg

//
lockPref("network.proxy.type", 2);
lockPref("network.proxy.autoconfig_url", "https://whatever.theurl.to/your_configuration/file.is");

In <installation folder>\defaults\pref\local-settings.js

pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // only needed if you don't want to obscure the content with ROT-13
pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");

more options

Note that these functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:

defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
