Update via about:Firefox delays after release date

I have noticed that within the last 4-6 versions, after the official release date (for instance today Firefox 38.0 was moved to release and pushed to release servers and for manual download on the website) that the subsequent day about:firefox does not update the program, and says I am using the latest version (37.0.2).

Is there a particular reason for this?

My guess: QA testing/adaptive release in case of a major bug -Pulled due to an unpatched critical vulnerability -Not overwhelming server load -Helping organizations delay deployment by 1 day instead of trying to push multiple critical vendor updates every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

I am betting on the first 2 reasons.

Any more information available about the subsequent release process after the date of release? Is there a 1-2 day delay before further downloads are allowed via built-in updater?

  • I did read the release calendar, but after the day after the release date, there is no further info provided

Thank you in advance!

Firefox 38 was pulled from release and updates are disabled for now to investigate and address some crashes on Windows and a Firefox 38.0.1 version is pending and will be released in the next days.

You can keep using Firefox 37.0.2 for now.

Firefox 38.0 was released on Tuesday May 12 Pacific time actually and it is still the current Release.

The updates are throttled, especially with automatic updates for a bit to ease load. Nothing unusual about that.

As you can see Here which is linked to on https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar

Yeah I was about to ask the same question. Today FF says that it is up to date with 37.0.2 version. Meanwhile 38.0 has been released yesterday.

I user several profiles. My main profile says that it is being updated by another instance???. What does that mean (see screenshot)

Another profile though says it is up to date with 37.0.2 version See screenshot)

Thanks.

The automatic updates are disabled from Wed to Friday after the Release anyways as the Calender link shows. Was done this way with previous Releases including 37.0, 36.0 and on.

By the way the Firefox 38.0.1 is now out and have seen reports that users are getting updates to 38.0.1.
