hence why nothing is capitalized in title. gah! no amount of googling or control panel modifications will fix it. shift key works normal in other text apps, so it is not a windows or keyboard issue. i would like to know how to unbind the shift key from bringing up the style editor console every time i press shift. no idea what caused this. thanks.

They keyboard shortcut for the Style Editor on Windows is Shift+F7. Is it possible Firefox is deeply confused and thinks your F7 key is down all the time? Sometimes when Firefox has problems with a key state pressing and releasing that key several times clears it up. Other times, you may need to shut down and restart Windows to resolve it.

I'd try pressing and releasing Shift+F7 several times to see whether that helps. (You also could try F7 by itself, but you may need to dismiss the caret browsing dialog in between presses.)
