I have lightning added, when I go to add Google Calendar Provider it asked me to add a newsgroup account. When I go through the dialog boxes it eventually asked me for a newsgroup server??. All I want to do is sync the Thunderbird calendar with my Google calendar but I cannot find anything on line relating to doing this on a Mac that is helpful. How can this be done?

There is nothing MAC specific about setting this up.

Can you describe what exactly you're doing?

I downloaded Thunderbird added the lightning add on. Then I downloaded the Google Calendar Provider. It did not show up in the add on section as describe in the instructions I found on line, so I opened the file and that is when it asked me to add a newsgroup. Not sure what else I can tell you.

You "opened the file"?

What file? How did you "open" it?

You say you "downloaded" the Provider add-on. That doesn't necessarily mean to me that you installed it.

Yes you were correct it was not installed that's what I was trying to figure out. Now it is installed, thank you. How do I configure it?

File|New|Calendar

Google Provider will insert a new category of Calendar.

New category, I don't understand??? Sorry I am new to Thunderbird. It seems there would be a place to log into Google like there was for email.

Please, just go through the process of adding a new calendar to Lightning. It doesn't help to try to second guess it.

File|New|Calendar

I did that and nothing was different. I still cannot connect with Google.

I did that and nothing was different.

There is no point guessing what you did do and what not. Therefore please explain in detail

  • what you did
  • what happened
  • what you expect to happen.

Well I am sorry but you are not giving me any detail. I added a new calendar like you said. I am expecting to sync with my Google calendar. I am not second guessing. I do not know how this process works and you are not telling me what I should expect. You are just giving me something to do without telling what I will see so how am I suppose to know!!

The setup process is pretty straight forward: File|New|Calendar The next thing you should see is a selection of local or network calendar.

It would certainly help if you could tell whether you get that or not. If so, choose network calendar.

And it would help even more if you could tell right away what happens and where you get stuck, without having to ask this again and again.

OK I got it. Thank you!
