How does Auto update work with ESR and version changes?

more options

I need a better understanding on how ESR Version changes are handled with auto update on. Looking at the upcoming transition to ESR 45. With Auto Update on will the user be upgraded from 38.6.0 to ESR 45.0 or 38.7.0? If 38.7.0, then I would assume they the user would not move to 45 until 45.2.0, is that correct?

So my ESR 38 version will not update to 45 till 31st of May 2016, right ? This is very important date for us because we loose Firefox support for npapi plugin

Yes. Per this - https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar#Future_branch_dates - it looks like Firefox 45.2.0 on 05-31 will be when ESR updates beyond Firefox 38. But I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened at a later date ...
