I want to save this image http://i.imgur.com/Ka9RLbo.jpg (SFW) to a directory on my hard disk. I right-click the image, select "Save image as..." and in the "Save Image"-dialog I navigate to the correct directory. At this point, it reads "Name: Ka9RLbo.jpg" near the top of the dialog, the name to use when saving the image. However, when I then click the "Save"-button, the contents of the "Save Image"-dialog changes: to the right of the view that shows the "Name", "Size", and "Modified" columns, a thumbnail of an existing image appears. At the same time, where it used to read "Name: Ka9RLbo.jpg" (near the top of the dialog), it now reads "Name: " followed by the name of the image of which the thumbnail is shown. At this point, the image has not been saved yet -- it seems the earlier click on the "Save"-button is ignored.

You can try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox release (46.0) in all languages and all operating systems here:

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Installed the 64-bit Linux version of FF46.0 directly from the Mozilla site, created a new profile through firefox -P. The new version ran -- I could tell because it showed the 'About' box without the (Linux) 'mint' label, and my usual plugins were missing.

However, the "problem" persisted.
