You can bookmark the https:// URL.

Or simply use the awesome bar, you don't have to type the entire URL. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/awesome-bar-search-firefox-bookmarks-history-tabs

I know how to that. I was wondering if there was a security setting that would force Firefox to use only secure sites.

There are extensions like HTTPS Everywhere that can force a secure connection, but keep in mind that some websites do not have a certificate installed or use a default certificate from the hosting company that won't work. The same can happen with pages that open in a (i)frame where you do not see the URL. In such a case you need to create an exception in the extension to use the HTTP protocol.
