I have to apologize if this question is not about Thunderbird email client, and I am glad to remove it if it is not relevant. I figured the topic of email should be of interest and relevant here. I use Thunderbird to view my email, and I noticed '.EXE' in the To field right before my email address. I did a search online, and it seems to imply that it has to do with Power Shell, so I believe it is a way to automate sending mass email. I checked it on Virus Total, and the file seems to be clean. I saved it as a text file and here is the relevant portion: To: "'blah@blah.net'" <blah@blah.net>, '.EXE' <blah@blahblah.com> Subject: blahblah SME Opportunity in blahblah, VA - blah Ref: 106 Thread-Topic: blahblah SME Opportunity in blahblah, VA - blahblah Ref: 106 Thread-Index: AdRJpP1pNkhalI4zTpu5yRok1VjmgQ== Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2018 07:56:47 +0000 Does anyone know what that is, and what it does?

email addresses have two parts. a display name. '.EXE' in this case. and an email address for delivery in your example <blah@blahblah.com>

So while folk normally put their display to be their own name. The reality is you can put anything in the display name. From the trade marked name of your product to something whimsical using the emoticons block in unicode.

Thank you so much. It is just odd that he would use .exe, and when I searched online there were a number of references to power shell as expected, and I was wondering if this was a way to automate mass emails.

No it is not any sort of Automation, unless it has been developed is a very wrong way to put something incorrect in the from.

As all programs are .exe files, it is more than reasonable any discussion on power shell, batch files or for that matter windows automation would include discu8ssion of automation.
