I refreshed Firefox, all bookmarks lost ... don't seem to have any profile other new one, or bookmarks backup prior to refresh. Complete disaster.

Was prompted to refresh Firefox due to slowness. Lost all my bookmarks, perhaps other things too.

I have "revealed" booksmarks and toolbars. Nothing there "but getting started"

I have tried to restore from previous profile or bookmarks backup. I don't seem to have a previous profile or bookmarks backup prior to the refresh. I have only found the profile and backup after the refresh.

I have spent hours on this already. I don't know what else to do.

If you don't have the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, is it possible that you got tired of waiting for the Refresh to be completed (I have had Refresh run for as long as 5 minutes) and you assumed that Firefox was hung up and you closed Firefox or "killed" the firefox.exe process?

If that is the case, your data is gone. That happened to me the first time I used that Refresh feature years ago; confirmed that is what happened the following day with a 2nd run of "Refresh".

IMO, "Refresh" really needs a "progress bar" to appear to keep the user informed as to the progress of the refresh procedure. Profile data is kept in RAM during the refresh procedure; "kill" Firefox and the RAM gets cleared along with the the user data.

Both of these replies are correct. I stumbled upon the Old FireFox Data folder shortly after sending this question, and found my bookmarks and toolbars. None of the online resources I looked at previously had mentioned this, for some reason.

As to whether I thought Firefox was hung up when it was trying to refresh and I closed it too soon, I believe I did do that. I didn't know what was happening and thought it was stuck. Yes, a progress bar would have prevented all this.
