Following on my ill-fated attempt to [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1312365#answer-1365417 create a shortcut with tbkeys-lite], I did however manage to create a shortcut for strikethrough, so that pressing the = key produces the desired effect. Other seldom-used keys could be used for subscript, superscript etc. Reply here if this is of interest.
