TB version 78.11.0 (32 bit) - using verizon\aol as provider - partner connects without problem using outlook - I've tried setting following TB Options as seen on the forum without luck.
security.tls.version.min = 1 security.tls.version.enable-deprecated = true
I can log on to my email account online so pw is ok. I've tried deleting the pw in TB and re-entering.
I've checked with another TB\verizon user and they are not having the problem.
Help please - thanks so much.

Bo445,
Thank you for the detailed input....that corrected my AOL/Thunderbird email issues.
Nice of AOL to make these password requirement changes and not inform anyone about it. No wonder they keep getting sold to the lowest bidder. :0)

I have the same problem that also started today: the same pop.verizon.net error message, provider verizon/aol.
Cannot send or receive email. I am also using TB 78.11.0. I can login to email on web, PW works.
I too would appreciate any help -- thank you.
I likewise am having the same Thunderbird email problems (problem started Monday, July 12th).
I get the same pop.verizon.net error message, from my provider Verizon/AOL.
Cannot send or receive emails on Thunderbird. I am using TB 78.12.0 (64 bit).
I can login to my Verizon/AOL account and read/send all emails OK.
I too would appreciate any help -- thank you.
Found this info below on https://downdetector.com/status/aol/. I used it and my AOL/Verizon incoming and outgoing mail now works. You retain your existing webmail password, and generate a new one for your Thunderbird in- and outgoing mail.
Thunderbird users, listen up.
We have to enter a new password for incoming & a new password for outgoing.
In AOL webmail, click on "Options" in the upper right, under your email address.
Go to Account Info
Go to Security (list on the left)
Scroll all the way down to "Manage App Passwords"
Generate a code for "other" by inputting "Thunderbird"
Copy and save it to clipboard.
Go back to Tbird. Click on 3 bars in upper right, then "options" Then "privacy and security" Scroll down to "saved passwords" Delete the old ones. Attempt to receive emails. When prompted, give Tbird the new password. Make sure to check "manage with password manager," or something like that. Then do the same for sending an email. Check to make sure the "saved passwords" have one for incoming & one for outgoing.

B0445 Thanks so so so much for your detailed response. Incoming resolved but Outgoing never asks for password - I get a different error - doesn't seem to be a way to add it to the Saved Passwords in Thunderbird.
Sending of the message failed The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.verizon.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.
Any additional insight greatly appreciated
Joan2e,
Did you go back into the AOL web site (AOL Mail) and create a 2nd Manage App Password for Outgoing e-mails? Give it a different name from your 1st AOL App Password (maybe name it Thunderbird Out).
duncanst
thanks duncanst I did do that but I still don't get prompted to enter the outgoing password. Frustrating but at least I am receiving so that's a huge plus. I'll keep researching. Really appreciate your help. Joan
Me again - Found in my TS I had changed outgoing port - set it back to 465 and received the password prompt and it's all good. Thank you again everyone!! Well except for AOL :-)
Thanx so much!!!
So now they have our passwords?
Bo445, you are da man!! Or, da woman!! Can't tell you how long I've been looking for an explanation of what went on, let alone a fix. Freak'n AOL. Anybody know a service that isn't a train wreck I can actually port my verizon.net account name to?
