amazon prime video movies only stream with limited best quality / no HD
Prime video movies cannot be streamed in best quality without limitation - HD video is not available. This only affects movies - shows (like Reacher) are stream best quality with max. bandwidth in Firefox. movies like (Hobbit, Matrix 4, etc.) can be watched without quality limitation in 1080p on the same setup using different browser - tested in Edge. This seems to be a recurring issue with Widevine Addon. There have been reports from 2021 about a similar issue but no solution was provided.
how to check: during movie playback: settings / best quality is limited to 1,27GB instead of 6,84GB per hour plus message HD is not available. This is not a content problem. amazon original movies like A Million Miles Away have this issue as well.
Windows 10 64bit, Firefox 64bit 119.0, Widevine Content Decryption Module 4.10.2710.0

After some additional investigation - the issue is related firefox and external displays. standard setup: Lenovo X1, Lenovo docking station - internal 1440p and 2 external 1440p displays Dell U2717D (both connected via Display Port on the docking station)
tried different test setup - issue is even worse. Dell U2717D now directly conncted via HDMI to Lenovo X1 (Intel 520 Graphics) - quality jumps back and forth between 1,27GB and 6,84GB about every second. Firefox video playback interrupts and recaches stream. Issue is visible, even without playing the video (just opening the movie settings context menu) - see attached screen recording - firefox and edge in parallel. And again - no issue in Edge.
X1 solo without any external display connected - playback is fine for movies and shows - in edge and firefox.
It seems to be an issue with widevine / DRM implementation in Firefox. During a screen sharing session with skype, external display was divided in half (edge and firefox in parallel). No picture (only subtitles) during streaming is shared on Edge. Firefox shares the stream during playback of movies and shows.
