Upgrade to version 131.0 broke my Internet Bill Pay website
I use Internet Bill Pay through my bank, and it has always worked correctly with Firefox. I have enhanced tracking protection turned off for the site secureinternetbank.com and I have cookies authorized in my exceptions list. Today I got this message:
Why can't I access Bill Pay?

Bank says it hasn't changed anything, and no tweaks I tried on privacy settings fixed it. I believe it's an issue with the new version. Can you tell me how to fix it or let me know when Firefox will fix it? The site works fine in Microsoft Edge, but I'd like to avoid using Edge.
Thanks.

Hey La Sombra, I've been seeing this broken Bill Pay issue from quite a few banks. Some small credit union ones and big ones like Bank of America, TD Bank and PNC Bank.
I've alerted the Firefox developers and they investigating it and are close to determining why it happens. I believe it has to do with a new cookie protection feature they added in Firefox 131.
I was going to ask you to switch your Tracking Protection from Custom or Strict to Standard. But it looks like you turned it off already. But does going into the Settings area of Firefox and changing it to Standard help at all?
There is also a preference setting you can change in the about:config page that has fixed this problem for others. I will post that once I hear back from you if selecting Standard mode for Tracking Protection worked or not.

This problem appears to be the same as reported by EDC3 in 2022. None of the solutions offered at that time have worked. What's different about this issue is it occurred immediately after the upgrade to version 131.0, so I strongly suspect a glitch related to the upgrade. I installed 131.0.2 today, but the problem persists. I am not looking forward to attempting to revert to a prior version, but I may have to unless some helpful soul knows how to fix this. I can't believe I am the only affected party, so I am also considering uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox in the current version.

Never thought to try that, but switching to Standard worked. I had manually turned off the settings that Bill Pay identified (as you noted), but that didn't do anything. And the site already had enhanced protection turned off. Don't understand exactly why this worked, but I am glad it did, as it saved me a lot of trouble.
Thanks!
You're very welcome La_Sombra! Thanks for reporting back that worked. In the next Firefox release, they're going to release a new fix for this so it doesn't happen again. But if this somehow returns, please come back and let us know.
But I agree that is so strange that disabling Tracking Protection using the Shield icon in the url bar wasn't enough to make that Bill Pay page work again and that you had to go into the Settings and lower the tracking protection to get it to act normal.
We have just released an update - Firefox 131.0.3 that fixes this issue. Please make sure to update your Firefox. Thank you for reporting this and happy browsing!
