Have listed the most recent crash ID below, but there seem to be different signatures, so I have no idea what the cause of the crashes is, and I cannot trace it back to a particular site or action that is causing it.

Try disabling AVG safe search, that add-on has caused crashes for some people. To disable it open the add-ons manager (in the Tools menu select Add-ons), in the list of extensions select AVG Safe Search then click on Disable. Re-start Firefox and see if it still crashes.

Thanks, but it still keeps happening, soI guess that was not the problem. This morning, I have had 11 crashes in 16 minutes. It has taken me some time to get on here to reply.

The latest crash ID is a43ec8de-ff88-4ec0-97f1-5f71f2101110.

One of the "crash reasons" I have gotten quite a few times lately, is "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE" and the signature that accompanies it is

std::operator+<unsigned short, std::char_traits<unsigned short>, std::allocator<unsigned short> >(unsigned short, std::basic_string<unsigned short, std::char_traits<unsigned short>, std::allocator<unsigned short> > const&) </p>

Any more ideas? I am so frustrated!

You can also try to disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Addons -> Extensions Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

If that doesn't help then try a clean (re)install:

  • Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
  • Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
  • Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
