What is the high-pitced (like a ray gun) sound I get when I load some web pages?

It happens on about 30% of websites. Example: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/uverse . I thought it might be some sort of malware or security alert, but can't find any viruses on my computer. Does not occur with IE8 or Chrome. Also dont see anything on Firefox options tab that indicates an audio alert option for any problem.

hello, that's probably triggered by your noscript extension. go to the addon's settings > notifications & disable audio feedback when scripts are blocked.

Thank you madperson. I should have posted that I had originally tried that but it's not the problem. The noScript sound is similar but a little lower-pitched. But thanks for posting.

autofill apparently has a similar noice-producing feature, so you also might want to go into its settings or disable it...
