i'm not stupid. i know how to turn on or off the password remembering thing in options, but it simply doesn't work. it's remembering passwords and logins of sites i choose not to. i can restart my computer and open up firefox and go straight into my online email account. it's very annoying.

Note that Firefox stores cookies of currently open tabs as session data in the sessionstore.js file, so if you leave those tabs open when you close Firefox then you may still be logged on the next time.

You can set the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS) on the about:config page to disable saving cookies via session restore.

The browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred pref is used when you do not reopen the previous session automatically via "Show my windows and tabs from last time" and uses the same values.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

yeah, i know how to do that, but what's the point of having an option to save certain passwords and not others if the only way to clear the ones i don't want to keep is to delete the cache? it's idiotic.

cor-el: this was a much more helpful answer and i believe you are correct. since i like to reopen my old tabs, it's a useful feature, but surely privacy/security options should override this. it seems i can have one or the other but not both. any solution other than setting ff to reopen with home pages? i've poked around in about:config a few times so i'm not unfamiliar if settings there need changing. cheers

Log out of sites where you want to require credentials? That's the only sure way to invalidate your session.

There might be an add-on to selectively crush particular cookies when you exit Firefox so that you lose the least amount of data; I haven't searched.

You're welcome.

Did you try to change the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level pref to 2?

That would make Firefox not store the cookies as part of session data.
