When I try to close firefox it remains running in task manager (firefox.exe *32) and if I open firefox without checking I will have multiple instances running.
Often when I close firefox it will remain running in task manager and cannot be closed by clicking "end process". If I do not notice or check I can have several instances of firefox running at once, but only one window open or in use.. Very strange indeed.

Can you try in safe mode, maybe malware is interfering?
