type then freeze
I have tried the fixes: reset, reboot, uncheck hardware acceleration, but Firefox keeps freezing any time I attempt to type anywhere on a webpage. Internet Explorer works fine. Have re-installed graphics card drivers as well. Have re-installed Firefox. Any suggestions? Problem cropped up after plugging in a new Logitech M100 mouse (USB). Problem persisted after removing the mouse. Any help appreciated.

Hello zborus, try to delete the user.js file in your Profile folder, and check it again.
[to open the profile folder go from : Firefox button > Help menu > Troubleshooting Information > under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder.]
(The user.js file does not exist by default, you can create the file and some programs create the file also.)
thank you
Looks like I have more on my hands than previously thought -- now I can't even see my devices anymore. Looks like more than just a Firefox issue. Thanks for your advice anyway -- I will keep it in mind. May have to start everything from scratch.
Is there any way to end this thread? I don't have a solution, but I think it's deeper than Mozilla. I appreciate the help offered, but I don't want to tie up this forum when I may have to go through the whole process of reformatting, etc.
check if it malware problem, you can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Try all program, each one detect different malware
but I don't want to tie up this forum when I may have to go through the whole process of reformatting

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
