I installed nightly and was very happy using it. I currently use a windows 8 OS, then for some apparent reason a couple of websites that I visit frequently started flashing/blinking. The blinking was like a pop up window trying to open. The websites are tagged and Pirate bay. The other websites like facebook do not have this problem. The blinking will occur when I scroll down/up and will stop when I do not scroll. I stopped the flash player (as per advice of some "experts" but still the problem persisted. I uninstalled nightly and when I visited the websites the blinking/flashing stopped (currently using Firefox for windows 8.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Note that you can experience issues at any time when using a Nightly alpha (or other) test build and it is always best and recommended to install such a version alongside of the current release using its own profile folder so you can fall back to that version in case of problem with web pages or the browser in general.

Did you check the Browser Console and Web Console for possible (JavaScript) errors?
Did you try a new profile to test for issues with your current profile folder?
Did you had issues before with hardware acceleration?

Do other development channels cause problems?

I uninstalled FF deleted prog86, program data and app data. I reinstalled FF and still have the problem. Is there any type of FF support that can actually help solve this VERY frustration problem?

more options

The simple answer is to not use Nightly builds. The Aurora and Beta channel builds are more stable, as is the Release version.

I don't understand what you mean by Nightly builds and Aurora and Beta channel builds. Do i need to reinstall FF and reinstall again but a different version? This is my original problem and what I did so far

I installed Orbit down loader and then uninstalled it after it changed my browser pages to conduit homepage and default browser. I think I fixed that problem. But now the reload button by the navigation bar keeps on blinking? Something changed something? I goggled it and see that it can be a problem but cannot find a solution. I am 50-75% computer literate only. I do have adblock plus

I used MB and a few other cleaners Spybot, AdwCleaner,Junkware Removal Tool, Superantspyware. I think I deleted all of the add ons in FF for conduit. Java also keeps coming on for an update then it says I am already up to date. This has never happened before and I always had adblock on before, I now have it removed also

I uninstalled FF deleted prog86, program data and app data. I reinstalled FF and still have the problem. This is someone who had the same issue. This is becoming a small nightmare...lol

So your issue is with the Reload button "blinking", correct? As was what that forum thread is about.

If so, are you seeing any URL's appear as "loading" in the lower-left corner of the browser window?

If that is the case, some portion of the webpage you are viewing is reloading "something"; maybe advertisements getting rotated.

It would be nice to have some URL's where that is happening so we don't have to speculate or guess what is happening.

My reload button is on top by the address bar. It is blinking on all sites...Ebay, slickdeals, Gmail And yes it blinks or fades intermittently from black to grey, sometimes it stays on grey for a minute or so sometimes just seconds It happens when I refresh the page the url's do not appear as loading.

Don't you get a steady Stop button on the location bar after a few seconds?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
